Position: Medical Technologies Cluster Manager

We are growing and have a one-year fixed term position (with possibility of further extension) to support development of the Health and Life Sciences ecosystem in Northern Ireland. It is an exciting time to harness the strengths and capabilities of the Northern Ireland Health and Life Sciences sector, as investment was announced in Dec 2021 for the Northern Ireland City and growth deals.

This new HIRANI role is a rewarding opportunity to use your skills to build a vibrant cluster focused on medical technology and diagnostics across the NI Ecosystem. You will work alongside diverse stakeholders and leaders drawn from across academia/industry/health, to develop a cluster which promotes trust, knowledge exchange and influences innovation activities. Every day will be different, and the role will see you meet a diverse range of people to learn how to frame their challenges and support their future needs for collaboration, funding, and access to talent as the sector transforms over the next decade and beyond.

Job Title: HIRANI Cluster Manager

Location: A mixture of working from home and the office in central Belfast 2-3 days per week but be willing to travel to meetings occasionally within UK and Ireland up to once a month.

Salary: £35,000 - £42,000 per Annum (depending on experience)

Anticipated Interview Date: Timeframe 22^nd-24^th June 2022

Anticipated start-date: 1^st August 2022

Duration: Fixed term 1- year position with the intention to extend (funding permitting).

BACKGROUND:

HIRANI is a not-for-profit organisation, launched in 2019 to better integrate the academic, and clinical institutions with Health and Life science businesses to positively impact translation, productivity, economic growth and deliver positive health outcomes for the citizens of Northern Ireland. It is formed by an alliance of Ulster University, Queen’s University Belfast, Invest-Northern Ireland, the Department of Health and Department of Economy.

In 2020, HIRA-NI was awarded >£1m over three years by Invest-Northern Ireland to foster economic growth, help speed up the delivery of health innovations to the public, and to continue to grow the ecosystem and the region’s national and international standing. HIRANI is looking to appoint a Cluster Manager.

MAJOR DUTIES:

To develop productive relationships with industry, SMEs and entrepreneurs, and other Key stakeholders within the Northern Ireland Health and Life Sciences Ecosystem e.g., the HSC, Invest NI, and the Northern Ireland Universities.
To develop and deliver network building activities/events in MedTech and Diagnostics.
To develop themed meetings and consortia within the NI Health and Life Sciences Ecosystem, including inviting and engaging a diverse range of stakeholders e.g., key opinion leaders, funders.
To manage the delivery and development of HIRANI projects at high quality and pace in a challenging environment.
Help create an ecosystem wide oversight of our existing Innovation strengths and opportunities as well as its unmet needs
Identify emerging innovation and research opportunities to support work streams in delivery of their aims.
Advise and guide ecosystem stakeholders on development, adoption and spread of Innovation across Northern Ireland.
Actively monitor opportunities for investment and support for innovation from local, regional, and national initiatives.
Other duties as required.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

A degree (at least 2.1) or higher degree in a Biomedical Sciences related subject, preferably with an interest in medical engineering, healthcare analytics and/or diagnostics.
An excellent knowledge of the health innovation lifecycle and diverse drivers and challenges for each stakeholder.
Have worked in at least one of the following areas of a health and life science ecosystem, HSC or NHS, university, or private sector.
Innovative, able to problem solve and make decisions from a broad range of complex options and data
Proven track record of influencing and negotiating across a broad range of professions and organisations as appropriate, including stakeholders at mid to senior level
Highly effective interpersonal communication and people management skills including delivering presentations, planning events, writing reports.
Proven track record in project and budgetary management.
Flexibility- be willing to travel to meetings and attend events outside working hours.
Highly organised with the ability to plan and run online webinars and in-person meetings including agendas, minutes, and next steps

DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS:

Have a developed a network of contacts within the Northern Ireland Health and Life Sciences Ecosystem
Current Project Management qualification
Experience across 2 or more of the following areas of a health and life science ecosystem, HSC or NHS, university, or private sector.

Background to the Role

During the internship you will: -

Gain insights into the Life sciences commercialisation pathway.
Develop a strong network of relationships within the Northern Ireland Health and Life Sciences Ecosystem (NI H &LS Ecosystem) (funders, companies, universities, and the HSC) etc).
Develop an understanding of the wider health and life sciences ecosystem and develop links in the UK, ROI, EU, and the rest of world.
Create, manage, and monitor delivery plans, and projects that will help to create a vibrant health and life sciences cluster in NI.
Support the delivery of online and in-person events and marketing communications, learning how to present to small and large audiences.
Develop an understanding of the culture of a wide range of organisations e.g., universities, HSC, NHS, and corporates in the (NI H&LS Ecosystem) and beyond.
Develop knowledge of how to build and manage strategic partnerships including influencing skills, drivers, barriers, and opportunities.
Understand how to think differently and try out new ideas.

Major Duties:

Read and write reports, data gathering and analysis, running surveys.
Help develop professional communications and marketing materials to support HIRANI activities e.g., PowerPoint presentations, website content, LinkedIn, and twitter posts.
Plan and assist with delivery of meetings, workshops, and events for HIRANI stakeholders within specified timescales.
Assist in the delivery and development of HIRANI projects at high quality and pace in a challenging environment.
Other duties as required such as diary management and arranging travel.

Essential Requirements:

Have or are about to obtain a degree or higher degree in a Biomedical Sciences related subject, preferably with an interest in medical engineering, healthcare analytics and/or diagnostics.
A basic knowledge of the health innovation lifecycle and diverse drivers and challenges for each stakeholder.
Evidence of building productive professional relationships to deliver projects, including influencing peers and other stakeholders.
Evidence of planning and implementing an event, a project, or a report.
Digital skills – such as use of Microsoft office, social media, Audio-visual meetings (e.g., Zoom or other) and websites.
Good written and oral communication skills such as writing reports and delivering oral presentations.
Be highly organised.

Relevant work experience, paid or unpaid, including experience gained via work placements during studies.
